The
idea of teaching people to meditate in situations where they find themselves
waiting or sitting for extended periods of time, was the result of feedback
from my students.
When I
suggested meditating twice a
day for 20 minutes, they said they didn't have the time.
So I
asked myself: 'Who has the time?'
The
answer that came to me was:
'People who are waiting.'
'People who are waiting.'
Since
I realized most people would rather not close their eyes in public places, I
decided a Zen Buddhist meditation technique done with open eyes would be the
best one to promote.
Here's how to do it:
Here's how to do it:
Sit upright wherever you are
Uncross your legs, put your hands in your lap, and put your feet flat on the floor.
Look down at a 45-degree angle and choose a point on the floor to focus on.
Breathe deeply and quietly.
Count your breaths from 1 to 10. Repeat.
Enjoy the sensation.
When you drift away and lose track of your counting, just smile to yourself and start again.
